Converted coal hoppers to serve GBRf/Tarmac deal
Forty-nine coal hoppers have been converted into aggregates wagons for GB Railfreight (GBRf) to serve a contract with Tarmac.
The work involved removing the middle section from the vehicles to make them the appropriate length for aggregates use, while at the same time retaining their 102-tonne maximum gross laden weight.
An initial rake of 24 converted wagons is operational from Tarmac’s Arcow Quarry, running to Bredbury, Agecroft and Leeds. A second set of 25 has been released, and these will be used on further services from Arcow, as well as those from Swinden Quarry. GBRf is one year into a five-year deal with Tarmac.
