North Downs ‘455s’

If the Class 455s to be rejected by the new First MTR franchise are fitted with supplementary diesel engines, they could be very usefully employed by First/GWR on the North Downs/Gatwick to Reading line!

They would provide extra capacity for passengers and their luggage, as well as making better use of the gaps in the third rail supply on this cross-country route. Brian Goldsmith, Waterlooville
