Vet­eran lo­co­mo­tives in West Mid­lands ac­tion

On Au­gust 25, pre­served 50008 Thun­derer heads home to DCRail’s Wash­wood Heath base from Thoresby Col­liery, while vet­eran English Elec­tric lo­co­mo­tive Co­las Rail 37057 ap­proaches with a Derby RTC-Read­ing test train. The com­bined age of the two lo­co­mo­tives is 104 years. The track lay­out here could be in­creased to four tracks again as part of the West Mid­lands Ca­pac­ity Boost ( RAIL 833), with the sep­a­ra­tion of the Down Derby Fast and the Up Whi­tacre line. Th­ese are cur­rently op­er­ated as a bi-di­rec­tional sec­tion of track which ex­ists from Water Or­ton West Junc­tion.
