Deliveries continue of Great Western Railway ‘800/3’ bi-modes

Vehicles for nine-car Great Western Railway Class 800/3 bi-modes are being delivered to Hitachi Rail Europe as assembly continues at Newton Aycliffe.

With work progressin­g on the final five-car ‘800/0’ for GWR (800036), the nine-cars are also being worked on by HRE staff at the North-East site. Vehicles for trains up to and including 800305 are arriving at the site.

HRE has delivered 800302/303 to Doncaster Carr for commission­ing.

Of the GWR five-car sets, 800001-006/008-016/019 have been delivered for testing and commission­ing, with 800020 the latest to venture onto the HRE test track. Class 800/0s enter traffic in October, with two pairs entering traffic weekly. When RAIL visited Newton Aycliffe at the end of July, sets up to and including 800026 were in the internal test facility, while 800027-800030 were awaiting slots in the internal test facility.
