Bi-mode for Crossrail 2!
The Government’s retreat from its promise to electrify the Midland Main Line to Sheffield has given me an idea.
The cost of Crossrail 2 would be considerably reduced if smaller, unwired tunnels were to be specified, using bi-mode trains in diesel mode in the central tunnels, and switching to 25kV AC or 750V DC on the existing surface lines.
I know that this approach could work, because it’s good enough for the North and the East Midlands and South Wales! Dave Hodson, Derby
