Progress report on CAF factory
Train builder CAF and senior Welsh Assembly politicians have met to discuss progress on the Spanish company’s plans to recruit staff for its new Newport factory.
Announced in July last year ( RAIL 831), the site will employ some 300 people. CAF Chief Executive Andrés Arizkorreta met Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones and Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport Ken Skates. Jones said: “We must remind the world Wales means business, and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing this week.”
CAF will start a recruitment campaign this spring, with training and apprenticeships beginning in the autumn. The company plans to develop a ‘cluster’ of local and national companies to supply parts for the trains. No orders have yet been confirmed for the site.
