Rail (UK) - - News -

Class 150 diesel multiple units cascaded from Great Western Railway have started arriving with Northern.

Three two-car Class 150/1s left GWR over the weekend of December 2/3, with 150124 running from Wabtec Rail Doncaster to Newton Heath, followed by 150102/122, which ran from St Philips Marsh depot (Bristol).

They are being sent north following the arrival of Class 150/2s and ‘158s’ at Exeter depot, as part of a GWR internal cascade designed to boost capacity by more than 50% in the Bristol and Exeter areas. Class 387 Electrostars delivered to the Thames Valley will release Class 16x Thames Turbos for the Bristol area, enabling ‘150/2s’ and ‘158s’ to move further west.

Two more Class 150s will move to Northern in February (expected to be 150130/131), once the first short-formed HST has been delivered to GWR at Long Rock.
