Plug door MK 3s to be renum­bered

Mk 3s fit­ted with plug doors for use with Great Western are to be renum­bered, with the first four treated.

Eleven rakes of 2+4 High Speed Trains are be­ing mod­i­fied for use on GWR routes such as Ply­mouth-Pen­zance, to bring greater ca­pac­ity and im­proved jour­ney times.

One power car has so far been mod­i­fied for these du­ties (43016), while four Mk 3s are at Wabtec Rail Don­caster for con­ver­sion. The coaches are Trailer Stan­dard (TS) 42093, 42168 and 42177, and they will be renum­bered 48111, 48101 and 48102 re­spec­tively. Ad­di­tion­ally, Trailer Guard Stan­dard (TGS) 44055 will be renum­bered 49101.

Other power cars be­ing re­tained by GWR, be­sides 43016, are 43005/024/ 040-042/092-094/097/098, 43122/153-155/158/170/172/ 186-189/192/194/198.
