Coal wagons make their final journey

Rail (UK) - - News - MARK PIKE.

It’s not every day that a coal train is seen on the South Western Main Line. However, not all is as it seems, as Freightliner 66538 approaches Eastleigh with the 2221 York South Yard-Eastleigh Works on October 18. The ‘66/5’ is hauling a rake of ex-Freightliner HHA coal wagons that will be stripped of reusable components and then scrapped. The downturn in coal has resulted in FL disposing of these wagons, which were introduced from 2000. In the past, components from redundant HHAs have been used in new wagons built by Greenbrier.
