to the RAIL Crossword. In this issue, we have a Locomotives in action at Leamington Spa 2001 DVD to give away to two lucky winners, courtesy of British Railways.tv (www.britishrailwaysonDVD.co.uk).

Leamington Spa is a busy junction station located on the main line from Birmingham to Oxford. It was once a locomotive hot spot, but the early 2000s was a time of dramatic change, and featured the withdrawal of cross-country locomotivehauled services and the continued reduction of coal and other freight traffic.

Filmed over several visits during 2001, this DVD focuses on the varied locomotive scene, which still featured Classes 37, ‘43’, ‘47’, ‘57’, ‘58’ and ‘60’, as well as the recently introduced Class 66 which had already begun displacing older traction.

Container traffic has been a feature of freight through the station for decades, and in 2001 these could still be found with a pair of Railfreight Class 47s in charge. Back-to-back merry-go-round coal, Serco test trains, steel, car transporters, engineers, parcels, oil tankers, selfdischarge train and passenger workings feature throughout.

The footage for this double DVD, which retails at £9.99, lasts for approximately 180 minutes.
