£9m support for Subway and trams
Glasgow Subway and Edinburgh Trams have received £9 million in emergency funding to offset the financial impact of COVID-19.
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) receives £5m and Edinburgh Trams £4m, following discussions with the Scottish Government. The emergency measures will be in place from July through to the end of September.
Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity Michael Matheson explained: “The Glasgow Subway and Edinburgh Trams provide key connections within our two biggest cities and as we emerge through the stages of lockdown demand for public transport will continue to rise.”
He said restrictions on these could have put unsustainable demand on other modes.
