CAF completes delivery of ‘195s’

-

Three-car CAF 195133 arrived at Edge Hill on November 12 for testing and commissioning, completing the delivery of 101 trains by the Spanish manufacturer.

The diesel multiple unit will join its classmates at Northern and should be in traffic by the end of the year.

The driving vehicles were assembled at CAF’s Newport facility, while the centre vehicle was built in Irun (northern Spain).

CAF has built 58 Class 195 DMUs and 43 Class 331 electric multiple units, in a £500 million deal placed by Arriva when it took over the Northern franchise in 2015.

All the EMUs have already entered traffic, while the final ‘195’ is one of three that were ordered when Northern exercised an option for more trains.

CAF is now completing repairs to two-car 195021 at Newport.

The DMU was derailed at Edge

Hill during shunting and has yet to enter passenger service.
