I have a 1982 Zündapp KS80WC which I imported from Germany in 2005, when it cost £190. It was totally original; complete and running. Since then it’s been re-sprayed and powder-coated, and has covered around 10,000 miles. It’s been very reliable – the only breakdown was self-inflicted (a loose rear wheel spindle).

It’s fast for 80cc, easy to start and has an excellent disc brake. The saddle is comfortable, even two-up. It took two of us to La Rochelle in France in 2012! It’s on a par with Japanese bikes. The styling is its most impressive feature: it looks like a bigger bike. There are plenty of NOS and good quality replacement spare parts available, too.

These are great bikes, as you say, and a rare sight in the UK. Well worth riding as far as possible! Frank W
