With the lower sec­tion in place, it was fairly sim­ple to fit the up­per sec­tion, which was straight­for­ward tub­ing just care­fully cut to length and shaped at each end. The swing­ing arm is still lo­cated at each end by the orig­i­nal plates, the hope be­ing that ev­ery­thing would stay true while all the weld­ing was done (apart from the lo­calised heat, weld shrinks as it cools, so there’s a ten­dency for things to twist or move about when you start play­ing like this). So I was grat­i­fied to dis­cover once ev­ery­thing had cooled the swing­ing arm spin­dle still slipped in and out eas­ily
