INSURANCE AGRO

Real Classic - - Letters -

RC173 just landed in my letterbox here in Australia, and I just wanted to thank you for making it happen. I thoroughly enjoy the read, mix of articles and writing style, and appreciate the effort it must take to produce something interesting and different each edition. RealClassic remains as my only subscription.

I recently received my insurance renewal, and chuckled (not that there’s much to find amusing in an insurance renewal) when I noticed that the insurer (who specialises in classic cars and bikes) had applied a $500 excess for damage caused by racing my machine. The bike in question is my 1954 BSA C11G – a 250cc powerhouse reputedly putting out 11bhp and with a top speed apparently approaching 62mph. Is there a new class of racing being introduced that I’m unaware of, have I stumbled upon a desirable classic that will knock Vincents and Velocettes from their perch, have T120 owners have something to fear? Bloody idiots (the insurers, not T120 owners!) Ross Cowdell, member
