Autumn days out
Our guide to half-term fun
As October half-term approaches, the days are getting shorter, darker and colder.
And here you are, with the kids for a whole week!
With the successful outdoor activities of the summer hols no longer holding the same sunny lure, and half a mind on saving for Chrimbo, it’s tempting just to shut the door and give in to telly, consoles and tablets for the week – especially with the sky-high cost of day trips.
Research released by Equifax last October showed that UK parents spend an average of £179 on keeping children entertained over half-term.
‘The cost of half-term is clearly taking its toll on parents, with an overwhelming 62 per cent saying that the cost of school holidays is increasing year on year,’ says Lisa Hardstaff, Equifax’s credit information expert. ‘It is only the first half-term of the academic year, yet it is interesting to see just how quickly the costs can add up.’
But never fear. With days out in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England – from utterly free to trips that’ll set you back £50 for the whole family – Real
