All at sea
Joyce Kettle, 74, from Blyth, Northumberland, headed off on a cruise of Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico, thinking the holiday insurance she had through her bank was adequate – but the policy only covered European trips. After the Marella Discovery II left port in January, she suffered from breathing difficulties and was airlifted to hospital in Cozumel, near Cancun in Mexico, where she had a heart procedure that required three stents.
Her family set up a Gofundme page called Get Joyce Home! pleading, We’re desperate to see our loving Mam & Nana and we’re missing her and the worry is crushing us hourly. After a week, she flew home – but was left with a medical bill of more than £73,000! The Gofundme page has raised
£14,300 to date.
