Joyce Ket­tle, 74, from Blyth, Northum­ber­land, headed off on a cruise of Cuba, Ja­maica and Mex­ico, think­ing the hol­i­day in­sur­ance she had through her bank was ad­e­quate – but the pol­icy only cov­ered Euro­pean trips. Af­ter the Marella Dis­cov­ery II left port in Jan­uary, she suf­fered from breath­ing dif­fi­cul­ties and was air­lifted to hospi­tal in Cozumel, near Can­cun in Mex­ico, where she had a heart pro­ce­dure that re­quired three stents.

Her fam­ily set up a Go­fundme page called Get Joyce Home! plead­ing, We’re des­per­ate to see our lov­ing Mam & Nana and we’re miss­ing her and the worry is crush­ing us hourly. Af­ter a week, she flew home – but was left with a med­i­cal bill of more than £73,000! The Go­fundme page has raised
