When Jay Z, 47, made his­tory in Jan­uary as the first hip hop artist in­ducted into the Song­writ­ers Hall of Fame in New York, it was apt that Amer­ica’s first black pres­i­dent was there to present the award. Touch­ing on the sim­i­lar­i­ties be­tween him and his mu­si­cal pal, the for­mer pres­i­dent spoke of their dif­fi­cult starts in life, be­fore adding, ‘Jay and I are fools for our daugh­ters, and we both have wives who are sig­nif­i­cantly more pop­u­lar than we are.’ The pair go way back. Jay Z hit the cam­paign trail with the politi­cian in 2008, while Barack has con­fessed to be­ing a big fan of the rap­per, declar­ing, ‘I’m pretty sure I’m still the only pres­i­dent to lis­ten to Jay Z in the Oval Of­fice.’
