Cara De La Hoyde didn’t have the easiest start to her pregnancy. Weeks before she announced she was expecting a baby in November, she and the baby’s dad, her Love Island

2016 beau Nathan Massey, 25, announced their split. However, they’ve remained friends – and Cara tells us they’re still close when we meet her at the St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes Awards in London. ‘We just get each other,’ she smiles. Here, the 27-year-old talks to us exclusively about her birth plans, her ‘huge boobs’ and her BFF Olivia Buckland’s wedding to Alex Bowen…

HOW ARE YOU AND NATHAN GETTING ON AT THE MOMENT

We’re really good. Obviously we’re not back together as a couple, but we’re still good friends and we just love spending time with each other. I’ve never met anyone like him – he makes me laugh and we just get each other. It’s nice. We’ve got a different relationship now – it’s good, and you never know. At the moment, we’re in a good place. WILL HE BE AT THE BIRTH?

Yeah, of course! I’m going to have Nathan and my mum there. I think my mum’s going to be the one with the level head, then Nathan’s going to be on the gas and air! I’ll have to wrestle it off of him. I think he’s going to stay up this end [points to head] because he’s quite squeamish! I was talking to him and my mum the other day and asked, ‘Are either of you going to cut the cord?’ and they were like, ‘Oh, no, no.’ He’s so excited now, I think because it’s a little boy. Obviously, he’d have been equally as excited with a girl, but when a guy’s having a son, it’s a pride thing, isn’t it? It’s still strange to me that we met on Love Island and now we’re here having a baby!

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR CHANGING BODY?

Oh, God, I love it! I saw Ferne [McCann, 27] the other day, and she looks amazing, she looks so good. For the first time in my life I have boobs… it’s crazy! When I was little, I always wanted big boobies, and I never got them. They were all right, but now they’re massive! So yeah, it’s fabulous. My bum looks bigger, I’m very happy with that. At the moment, through the magic of Bio-Oil, the stretch marks have stayed away.

WHAT WAS OLIVIA [BUCKLAND, 23] LIKE WHEN SHE FELT THE BABY KICKING?

She actually freaked out! She and Nathan’s sister are very similar – when they feel him kick, they’re like, ‘Ahh, the baby!’ It was really funny, though, we were at an event recently with Alex [Bowen, 25], and I haven’t seen him in ages – I’ll obviously stay with Liv when he’s away working and we’ll look after the dogs and everything – and he didn’t realise how big I’d got. It just so happened that the baby had just started kicking, so I was like, ‘Al, put your hands on it,’ and he did. Olivia loves it, but Al gets so emotional, he’s very paternal.

ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THEIR WEDDING?

I’m very excited, I can’t wait! I know all the behind-thescenes gossip and it’s going to be amazing. It will be a beautiful wedding. She’ll look gorgeous, he’ll look handsome – I’m really excited about it. I just hope I can get in shape before the wedding. I’ve got a while. The hen parties will be in the summer, so I’ve got some months to get in shape. I might not have time to cook, so I’ll have to teach Nathan to cook, ’cause then when he comes round he can make me dinners!

ARE YOU FRIENDS WITH ANY OF THE LOVE ISLAND CONTESTANTS FROM THIS YEAR’S SERIES?

I met Gabby [Allen, 25] and Marcel [Somerville, 31] last week. They’re amazing. I was team Marcel and Gabby the whole way through the show! I met Camilla [Thurlow, 28] and Jamie [Jewitt, 27], they’re lovely. I also spoke to Montana [Brown, 22]. She’s doing really well. She’s a single woman, and she’s really flying the flag.
