I GET REALLY ITCHY EAR HOLES. SHOULD I STOP SCRATCHING THEM?
Yes. You probably have otitis externa – a fancy name for infection of the outer ear canals. If you keep water out of them and stop prodding about with your finger or cotton buds then it may settle down on its own – the ear canal can clean itself. If you’re a swimmer, you can avoid waterlogging by using earplugs. If you think you have eczema in the ear canals, you can get some hydrocortisone cream from the chemist, which may help. If it’s not getting better, then you’ll needs drops or a spray from your GP. Be careful putting anything in your ear – the eardrum is surprisingly close to the surface.
