Jake’s a Dreamboy – we knew already!
Reality TV star Jake Quickenden tells us about his ‘emotional’ new music, and why he’s not at all fazed about joining The Dreamboys…
Dancing On Ice winner Jake Quickenden hasn’t had the easiest month. In April, the star confirmed his split from fiancée Danielle Fogarty after four years together.
Soon after the shock news, the couple – who got engaged last September – were pictured hanging out together again. But Jake denied rumours they had rekindled their romance, saying, ‘We still talk and
I still love her to bits, but sometimes you’ve got to go away to come back.’
When we speak to Jake, questions about Danielle are off-limits, but he hints the two of them are still living separate lives when he tells us he’s not looking for love. Instead, he has also been channelling his emotions into new music.
The TV star, who reached the live shows in the 2014 series of The X Factor and appeared on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! later that year, has also been keeping himself busy performing with The Dreamboys.
Here, the 29-year-old talks about stripping off, his heartfelt music, and his bromance with Love Island star Kem Cetinay...
DO YOU FEEL NERVOUS ABOUT STRIPPING OFF ON THE DREAMBOYS TOUR?
I’m probably more naked on my Instagram than I am on the tour. I actually think I’m a naturist, because when I get home from work, the first thing I do is strip off. I hate wearing clothes. The tour’s cool, though. I thought I’d just be taking my top off and getting covered in whipped cream, but I’m learning to dance!
WHAT ARE THE AUDIENCES LIKE?
They’re a bit rowdy, but that’s a good thing. They go mad when we’re on stage, but then you meet them afterwards and they’re really quiet and shy.
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR LOVE WHILE YOU’RE ON TOUR?
No, definitely not. I’m just concentrating on work right now.
YOU’VE SHARED SNIPPETS OF YOUR NEW SONGS LOVED THE SAME AND AFRAID TO BE LONELY. WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THEM?
I write about things I’ve been through and that affect me. I’m a private person, but song writing’s a good release. Most of my songs are quite emotional. I’m so buzzing to be writing again.
YOU HAD A BROMANCE WITH KEM CETINAY ON DANCING ON ICE. DO YOU STILL SPEAK TO EACH OTHER? Yeah, of course! We have similar personalities and the same sense of humour. We just got along really well. I’m a bit older than Kem [aged 22], so I see him as a little brother.
WHAT’S COMING UP FOR YOU IN THE FUTURE?
I want to get my music out as soon as possible, and I’m doing some presenting on Lorraine Kelly’s show. But I’m just staying busy, having a laugh and enjoying what I’m doing. I may as well work at Greggs, the amount of pies I’ve got my fingers in!
WOULD YOU DO ANOTHER REALITY TV SHOW?
I can’t quit them, they’re what I’m known for. I’ve got to do another one in a couple of years. MasterChef would be great, but I can’t cook! I’d look rubbish making a Pot Noodle!
