Caroline kicks off four pages of Love Island gossip
She’s newly engaged to gorgeous fella Andrew Brady and is the host of TV’s hottest summer show – we catch up with the effervescent Caroline Flack to talk about Love Island, finding that elusive romantic spark and her own wedding plans…
It’s the summer show that has us hooked to our TV screens, as gorgeous singletons from around the country flock to a picture-perfect Majorcan villa looking for love. As the new series of Love Island kicks off, we chat to a very tanned, happy and loved-up Caroline Flack to get all the goss.
Over a glass of prosecco in the gorgeous Spanish villa that will be the set for this year’s sizzling show, Caroline, 38, opens up about her wedding plans to fiancé Andrew Brady, 27, the couples from previous years, and why she believes in love at first sight…
YOU LOOK VERY TANNED...
I’ve been here for a few days with my fiancé. He was annoyed, as it was cloudy, so he thought he wouldn’t tan. He didn’t believe me that you can tan through the clouds, so he stayed inside doing nothing and I was outside.
DOES HOSTING THE TV SHOW MAKE YOU FEEL MORE ROMANTIC?
Definitely. I love the journey the contestants are on – especially the declarations at the end. It’s like real life amplified. You see them going through what most people go through in six months... in just a few weeks! In real life, we’re still on Tinder deciding if we’re going to match with that person or not. There’s none of that here, as they don’t have their phones or social media, so it’s all about the art of conversation. It always makes me laugh when they have to talk about how they feel about each other, and they’re like, three days into the relationship – I wouldn’t do that for six months!
DO YOU BELIEVE PEOPLE CAN FALL IN LOVE AFTER SIX MONTHS?
Yes! One hundred per cent. Most of my relationships, I’ve known instantly. It’s about a connection and if it’s there, then you know. It’s such a simple subject, but it’s also really complicated, because that spark with someone is hard to describe.
YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING IS VERY MEGHAN MARKLE...
Is it? I didn’t know that! I’ve never been the sort of girl who designed a wedding dress in her mind, or spent time thinking about her wedding.
IS ANDREW GOING TO SPEND MUCH TIME OUT IN MAJORCA WITH YOU DURING FILMING?
I don’t know at the moment, but he’s here now. I’m not sure what he’s up to... probably fishing. He loves fishing!
ARE YOU HAPPY YOU’RE ENGAGED?
Yes, very happy! It would be weird if I wasn’t. I’m really happy.
HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT WHEN YOU’LL GET MARRIED?
No, we haven’t decided anything. I don’t know what to do to organise a wedding. I was hoping I’d get engaged and someone would call me and be like, ‘I hear you’re getting married, do you want me to organise it for you?’ But no one has! Maybe I’ll get married in the villa!
ARE YOU STILL IN TOUCH WITH ANYONE FROM PREVIOUS SERIES?
Yes, although mainly just on DM. Olivia Buckland has asked for my address to invite me to the wedding so, hopefully, I’ll be going to that. I speak to Camilla Thurlow, because she now works with my best friend who runs a refugee charity.
YOU LOOK TINY! THE HAPPINESS IS COMING OUT OF YOU...
I’ve been cutting out dairy for two years. That’s the only thing I kept up from a few years ago, when I was on a health kick and I gave up sugar. I eat a bit of sugar now.
IS YOUR APPROACH TO THE SHOW DIFFERENT THIS YEAR BECAUSE YOU’RE SETTLED DOWN?
I still don’t think I’m the right person to give advice. I’m not going to be like, ‘Guys, listen to me. I’m settled down now...’
HAVE YOU MET CARA DE LA HOYDE AND NATHAN MASSEY’S BABY?
I’ve not seen them since the show. I’m glad they’re back together. It’s amazing to think that this show really can create real love. Alex Bowen and Olivia are brilliant together, too, which is funny, because I was dubious about them when they got together in the villa. I wasn’t sure if it would last. But that’s the great thing about the show, we test relationships and see how resilient they are.
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL CONFIDENT?
Being tanned and doing my hair. If I’ve not done my hair, I feel really gross. I wash and blow dry it every day. I get up extra early to make sure I can do it, otherwise it’s frizzy. I dry, straighten, then curl – and it takes ages! I’m always hot because of it – it feels like a carpet.
WHEN ARE YOU MOST COMFORTABLE WITH YOURSELF?
When I’m in my PJs. I have about a hundred pairs! When I go shopping, I always buy them. I’ve got comfy ones, warm ones, silk ones – it’s my favourite thing. I put them on as soon as I get home.
