5 OF THE BEST GLOVES
Held Twin Expect to pay: £197 held.de
Hard to believe how good these winter gloves are until you try them. There are two chambers in the glove, one for really cold days, the other for milder ones. Both chambers are utterly waterproof. They are expensive – but you are effectively getting two pairs of gloves for your money.
Arc-on Competizione Expect to pay: £180 arc-on.co.uk
Full-on race gloves with thick but flexible layers of kangaroo leather reinforced with Superfabric and stingray hide for toughness, but still with great comfort and feel. Great on the road as well as the track, though not the right gloves for cold or wet weather.
Richa Arctic Expect to pay: £80 nevis.uk.com
The Arctic gloves are warm, dry and comfortable – at a great price. Sturdy build means protection levels are good, thanks to well-placed armour and reinforcement panels. If you need one pair of gloves for year-round use, these really are hard to beat.
Alpinestars GP Pro Expect to pay: £200 alpinestars.com
These are traditional sports gloves that use thick but supple leather and lots of plastic armour. There’s plenty of feel, though the thick plasticreinforced cuff may not fit inside some tighter sleeves.
Knox Handroid Expect to pay: £170 planet-knox.com
Innovative and very effective sports gloves with ground-breaking protection on fingers and palms, with an easily adjusted wrist fastener. They may look bulky but in fact they’re brilliantly comfortable and extremely protective.
