5 OF THE BEST RIDING JEANS

-

Resurgence Voyager Expect to pay: £240 resurgencegear.net

Rated to CE Level 2 standard with an abrasion result of 10.83 seconds from their Pekev fabric, these protective jeans benefit from decent tailoring to disguise their bulk – though the pronounced way Knox hip protection adds width at the waist is unflattering.

Draggin Holeshot Expect to pay: £270 thekeycollection.co.uk

Straight-leg, mid-rise, rigid denim jeans that have gained CE Level 2 approval with a 7.45-second abrasion result. There’s a full-length lining that makes them bulky in the thigh and hips, but the Knox armour is fairly unobtrusive and they’re superbly comfortable.

Bull-it Voloce Expect to pay: £240 oxfordproducts.com

The Voloce’s have full CE Level 2-approved protection (passing abrasion, slash and burst tests) with abrasion-resistant Covec lining 99 per cent of the jeans. There’s also an effective water repellent finish and a mildly irritating Velcro boot strap.

Roadskin Beast Expect to pay: £150 roadskin.co.uk

Tested to CE Level 1 for abrasion with a resistance of just under five seconds, thanks to a double layer of 320gsm material. But as they’re 640gsm thick means they’re bulky and noticeably heavy, though they are still fairly comfortable.

Bull-it SR6 Expect to pay: £150 oxfordproducts.com

The ‘SR6’ refers to a slide rating of six seconds in the CE Level 1 approval for abrasion. The SR6S have a 60 per cent coverage of Covec Bull-it’s alternative to Kevlar. Worn indoors they get warm and the lining can get prickly but they’re fine on the bike and have a water repellent finish.
