“The frame is made from the same tubing as a WWII Spitfire”

What’ll it do, Mister?

Power comes from a well-proven 600cc single-cylinder four-stroke Husqvarna motor. It makes 55bhp and 43lb.ft torque. Those might not sound like impressive figures until you realise the whole bike only weighs 130kg ready to rock – and with wide dirt track-style tyres and high-end suspension, should handle demonically. And if any criticism has been made of the firm’s GP450 Adventure, it’s directed towards its small engine – so we’d wager we’ll see this 600 single pressed into off-road action soon…

It looks different to anything else out there

It is. Designer Ratcliffe explains: “We wanted to create a bike with the look of a one-off, shed-built special, but with the quality and reliability of a massproduced piece of technology.” Detailing is first rate, from the unique frame made of T45 steel tube – the same tube as the fuselage of a WWII Spitfire plane. It’s British steel, of course. The neat rear light grafted into the rear frame loop has all its wires running through the frame. The compact tank has been hand-crafted tank, reflecting the simplicity of the minimalist design. “My favourite part?” Ratcliffe gives a true deigner’s answer. “The stance and the porosity of the design.” So what is its closest rival? The Ducati’s Scrambler? Triumph’s Bobber? Both have more power but weigh much more. And neither comes close for exclusivity – especially as the Spitfire gives the chance to specify everything from colour and size of wheels to tank colour, seat and exhausts.

Can I buy one?

The original plan was for a limited run of 150 bikes at £7995, but these have already sold out. If you’re interested, you’ll have to go on a waiting list (at www.ccm-motorcycles.com). But CCM knows it’s on to a good thing, so we don’t think you’ll have to wait long. Not bad for a bike hand-built in Bolton.
