Where to go

1 MONTH AHEAD

-

July 29-30, Aberdare Park, South Wales

Aberdare fuses together the unnatural bedfellows of fast, furious, frantic road racing and tranquil, picturesque Victorian parks. The place is so quaint that track action takes a break on Sunday morning for the church. Set just half a mile from Aberdare town centre, the track itself is less than a mile long and so narrow it makes the infamous Oliver’s Mount course at Scarborough look like a motorway. Though the supermoto class has fallen off the schedule this year, you’ll still see classic and modern machinery from 50cc tiddlers to focused supersports racers mixing it on the tree-lined lanes. www.aberdare-park-road-races.co.uk

Bexhill Motofest July 30, Bexhill-onsea, East Sussex

Bikes take over this pretty seaside town on the south coast for the day. You can look forward to stunt shows, trade stands, bike displays, loads of live music, and even a Harleydavidson cavalcade riding right through the middle of the town – all the excuse you need for a great ride out. And best of all, the whole thing is completely free to attend. www.bexhillmotofest.com

Krazy Horse Late Night August 3, Krazy Horse, Bury St Edmunds

From 6pm to 10pm Krazy Horse – the custom shop to top all custom shops – keeps its doors open and attacts hundreds of bikes of all types. Bands keep you occupied while the café keeps you full. Pore over their showroom of specials, such as the Zero Type 5 featured on page 44. www.krazyhorse.co.uk

Donington Classic Motorcycle Festival August 4-6, Donington Park, Leicestershire

A huge celebration of historic race bikes, both locking horns in competition as well as simply parading round for your aural and nasal delectation. Over the three days you can see up to 50 races, as well as special guests including former 500GP race winner (at Donington Park, no less) Simon Crafar. www.donington-park.co.uk

Llangollen Motorcycle Festival August 5-6, North Wales

Based at the Royal International Pavillion in Llangollen, this bike show offers stunt shows, stands, guest stars including TT megastar John Mcguinness, classics, customs, and a trials competition. On the Sunday there’s also a flypast from a Spitfire and a Hurricane. You’re surrounded by great roads in every direction too. www.llanbikefest.co.uk
