THE RIDE VERDICT
Unexpected win for Furygan thanks to excellent performance
THIS WAS A close one but there is a winner. The Furygan Heat Blizzard gloves did an excellent job in all areas. They are well made, fit nicely and offer excellent comfort and feel when on.
The inclusion of the smartphone app isn’t in itself a huge factor but the one-hit control helps to improve safety, as you only have to take one hand off the bars to control them. The freezer test backs up the road ride; they keep the cold out well – particularly noticeable compared with my toes.
Combined with their price and battery life and the fact that there is an (admittedly expensive) hardwire kit available, they are a worthy winner of a Best Buy triangle.
The Five HG3S did a very good job, particularly when you consider feel for the bike’s controls. They are lighter than several other gloves here, despite having larger capacity batteries and on the road test, eliminated all feelings of coldness in the hands. The freezer test showed they did remarkably well for a lightweight glove but the baggy lining cost a few marks. However, on the basis of this, along with the fact that they are also Vegan-friendly, means they gain a well-deserved Recommended triangle.
One surprise was the length of the battery life of the Keis gloves in our bench test, at nearly four hours — well in excess of what we expected. However, they miss out on a Recommended triangle, as comfort is reduced by the concentration of heat across the back of the knuckles. A shame.
