THIS is the moment a driver speeds off after crashing into a car carrying a 92-year-old passenger.

The Volkswagen Polo can be seen skidding through a junction in Deeplish before smashing into a Toyota Yaris.

But instead of stopping, the driver then speeds off along Milkstone Road, leaving debris from the crash strewn across the street.

CCTV cameras at the nearby Auto Shop caught the hit and run on tape and police are now investigating the footage.

The pensioner, who was being driven by his carer, was said to have been shaken up, but uninjured.

Auto Shop owner Mohammed Yousaf said: “My neighbour came running into the shop saying there had been an accident and a guy had sped off

“I went across to assist them and the old guy was really shaken up, but thankfully he was not injured.

“I brought him into my shop and showed him the footage and when he realised we had captured it on CCTV and had the guy’s registration plate on camera he seemed to calm down and was reassured that the police might be able to capture him.

“It is a terrible thing to do to anybody, but especially to a 92-year-old.

“I hope the driver caught and punished.”

Greater Manchester Police said they were now trying to find the driver.

A spokesman said: “Police we called to Milkstone Road at 10.50am on March 17, to reports of a collision between a Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Polo.

“The Polo did not stop at the scene and damage was caused to the Yaris.

“No-one was injured.” is

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.

It’s the latest in a string of incidents the Auto Shop’s 14 CCTV cameras have captured.

In March last year a car was repeatedly ram-raided into the front of the shop.

Bizarre footage showed the driver of the blue Toyota ask another driver to move her vehicle out of the way before reversing a number of times into the display window.

And in January cameras recorded the terrifying moment a pram carrying a child was struck by a car in a ‘hit-and-run.’
