Rehman setting sights on English crown

-

ROCHDALE boxer Bilal Rehman is targeting the English title after he picked up another victory this past weekend.

The 24-year-old defeated Ibrar Riyaz 59-56 on point after six rounds at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.

It means he is now 8-0 in his professional career, winning all of his fights since making his debut back in September 2015.

Rehman was delighted to get the win, and is now hoping for a big fight in the near future.

“Thank you everyone. Time to go get that English title next.

“This kid never underestimates anyone,” he said.

Rehman has impressed since joining the pro ranks, with two of his eight wins coming by stoppage, including a knockout of the year contender against Billy Parker in 2016.

It was a packed bill that Rehman competed on over the weekend, with the main event seeing Joe Murray knock out Reynaldo Cajina in the first round.

It took Murray just 100 seconds to get the win, knocking Cajina down twice on course to getting the victory.

Murray has now extended his record to 20-2, with those two defeats coming against Rochdale-born boxer Liam Walsh.

Also on the card, Liam Taylor continued his comeback from injury with a fourth round stoppage win against James Gorman. Taylor has now fought twice in the last two months, having previously not fought since November 2015.

Lee Oldham, Ross Cooksey, Omar Dusary, James Moorcroft, Jake Bulger, Darryl Sharp and Carl Wild all earned wins on the bill too.
