IT’LL be blooming beautiful in Rochdale this summer with floral displays blossoming across the borough.

Colourful planting is taking seed along major roads with clean ups and new floral displays as the council readies itself for this year’s national Britain in Bloom competition.

Last year the council picked up several top awards, including gold medals for both Heywood and Rochdale In Bloom.

Judges were full of praise during their 2016 visit.

Council leader Richard Farnell said: “The borough comes to life in the summer, with floral displays shooting up all over the place.

“Everyone’s making an effort to do Rochdale proud as we gear up to the Britain in Bloom visit.

“Our residents have also shown their green credentials by supporting the council’s recycling efforts and also taking part in the Spring Clean 2017.

“The amount they are putting into their recycling bins is increasing year on year helping us send less to landfill, saving the council money and the number of recycling bins they’re ordering is increasing.

“But they can also support the In Bloom entry by organising their own floral displays in their own garden and community.

“We made a brilliant job of it last year.

“I’m sure, with our green residents’ support, we’ll do just as well this time round.” ●●The volunteers who contributed to Rochdale’s amazing crop of prizes at last year’s North West In Bloom Awards were thanked by the council
