Choir stands together to record charity single
CHOIR members ‘sang their hearts out’ as Springhill Hospice played host to the recording of a charity single that has the backing of Sir Paul McCartney.
Around 140 staff, volunteers and friends from the newly formed UK Hospices Choir recorded My Heart Will Go On and We All Stand Together, which will be included on a charity album, due to be released in December.
It will be a compilation of cover songs by 10 choirs who sing for an important reason – to share their personal messages of hope, and the power of community.
All of the choirs will record with a well-known artist who is backing their cause.
Sheila Johnson, director of clinical services at the hospice, said: “I was so proud to see all our choir members singing their hearts out in their Springhill tee shirts and we were delighted to welcome our guests from the five visiting hospices.
“James Hawkins from Choirs with Purpose was an inspiration and we all feel very lucky to have been able to work with him on this exciting project. We now can’t wait for release of the album – let’s hope it gets to number one.”
James Hawkins, from Choirs with Purpose, said: “Thank you to all the fantastic singers who recorded at Springhill and to Sheila and her team for making me feel so welcome.
“It was a very special day with lots of laughs and smiles, some tears and fabulous singing. We all went away shattered but totally high on the fun we had.”
The UK Hospices Choir will join other ‘choirs with purpose’ including the Missing People Choir, Britain’s Got Talent Finalists in 2017 together with the Parrs Wood High School Choir who sang with Ariana Grande at One Love Manchester and the Greenwich and Lewisham NHS Choir, who hit the Christmas number one spot in the singles chart two years ago.
The album will be released on December 15 and is available for preorder now via pledgemusic.com/choirswithpurpose.
All profits from the sales of the album will be divided equally between the 10 choirs involved, or their nominated charities.
