ENTRIES are being sought for this year’s Rochdale Borough Business Awards.

The annual event, which celebrates the best of Rochdale’s businesses, takes place at the town hall on Friday, November 10.

Closing date for entries is Friday, September 29.

A new category of best independent retailer has been added for the first time this year, alongside existing categories including apprentice of the year, new business of the year and business person of the year.

Council leader Richard Farnell said: “Now in their seventh year, the business awards are getting bigger and better and with 1,000 more businesses in the borough than there were in 2010, it’s hardly any wonder.

“Rochdale’s business community is going from strength to strength, with new enterprises setting up all the time. In the last few weeks alone, I’ve visited a new hairdressers, a new café, a new bar and a new construction training centre. Alongside our well-established success stories, these businesses are all bringing with them new jobs and investment. Events like the business awards are their opportunity to stand up and shout about their achievements. I’d urge them to enter soon; you’ve got to be in it to win it.”

The awards are organised by the council, Hopwood Hall College and NatWest bank, with sponsorship from local businesses. All proceeds from the night go to Springhill Hospice.
