Air ambulance on M62 as driver suffers ‘medical emergency’
AN air ambulance was called to the M62 near Rochdale on Wednesday afternoon after a driver suffered a ‘medical emergency’.
A driver crashed into the central reservation and then suffered a medical episode at the wheel, police said.
The motorway was closed in both directions for over an hour between junction 20 for Rochdale and junction 21 for Milnrow during rush-hour to allow the air ambulance to land.
The male patient was taken to hospital to via air ambulance in a serious condition, a GMP spokeswoman said.
She said: “We were called at 4.10pm to junction 20 of the M62 to reports that a vehicle had crashed into the central reservation. An air ambulance was called and the motorway was closed at about 4.35pm. The patient was taken to hospital via air ambulance in a serious condition.”
The road was reopened at about 5.20pm. Drivers were stuck in standstill traffic stretching between junction 2 of the M61 for Bolton all the way to junction 23 of the M62 for Huddersfield following the incident.
