Difficult start to 2017/18 campaign

“Brad did brilliantly and there have been numerous times this season already that he has done that – he’s brilliant at going past players, he’s so quick and I always gamble on him,” said Done.

“I think the shot was going wide so I had to make sure and we’ve got the three points.

“Brad will take all the plaudits for the assist and I’ll take anything! It was going across the face of goal so I wasn’t going to take the risk of it going wide.”

Thereafter, the game became a real battle for Dale as Bristol picked up their game. But he believes it was just the tonic for Hill’s men.

“It was a right battle, but I think it was what we needed really,” he said.

“The last three results had seen us concede at set plays and those goals cost us points in all those games. We’d been leading in the last two games and got pegged back, so to be leading this game we had to make sure we went on to win. We didn’t do that against Northampton on Tuesday so this was a good way to win. It will give us that bit of confidence – we know we are good enough to play and at some stages in the first half on Tuesday we were good, but we just blew up in the second half. So to win in the way we did was great in very tough conditions. We came in and it felt a really deserved win.

Next up it’s Plymouth away.

“They’re form has not been great and I’m sure they’ll want to turn that around but we needed that win,” added Done.
