Council leader should go says inquiry lawyer
Abuse scandal victims claim Richard Farnell ‘isn’t fit to be town hall’s leader’ as demo staged at council offices
DEMONSTRATORS outside Rochdale’s council offices demanded town hall leader Richard Farnell resign or be sacked in the wake of his evidence to the national child abuse inquiry.
They stood outside Number One Riverside shouting ‘Farnell Out’ and waving placards.
Their protest came after Coun Farnell - who was also leader when allegations of child abuse at a council-run school surfaced in the early 1990s - was told at the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse by a lawyer representing victims that he should stand down after claiming he knew nothing about the reports until the last few years.
