Wesley is Ed-ringer for music superstar
AN Asda shelf stacker wowed presenter Phillip Schofield when he appeared on This Morning to discuss his resemblance to singing superstar Ed Sheeran.
Phillip was stunned by Wesley Byrne’s “uncanny” likeness to the Grammy Award winning singer - and urged Ed’s team to get in touch with the lad.
Wesley, from Shaw, says he’s mobbed in Asda for looking like the chart-topping superstar and has been asked for photos while out in Manchester.
An amazed Phillip, who is also from Oldham, said: “You’re uncanny, you really are.
“Surely Ed’s team must be watching. A picture of you and Ed would be incredible.”
Wesley explained: “It started when I was on a night out and this random guy was adamant that I was him.
“He asked me to sing something and I had to show him my passport to prove I wasn’t him.
“I didn’t find out who he was until a friend at college said ‘Google Ed Sheeran, you look exactly like him.’
“It happens every time I’m at work, if I’m out with friends or just shop- ping. I’ve been told to stop taking selfies at work because people are coming up to me while I’m working.
“Some of the smaller kids I don’t have the heart to tell them I’m not Ed so I say ‘yep, the music didn’t work out.’”
Asked if he would consider becoming a professional Ed look-alike he said: “I’ve thought about it I have no idea how to.”
But Phillip and cohost Holly Willoughby believe he’ll now be inundated with requests.
Wesley, who appeared on the This Morning couch with his mum, was sent out in London by This Morning to perform along to Ed’s mega hit Shape Of You in order to fool passers-by into thinking that he was the real deal.
One Ed fan who stopped to watch gasped: “It’s got to be you, it’s got to be you.”
Wesley, who has tickets to see Ed in concert at the Etihad stadium in May, says he is regularly stopped in the street and at work by people requesting selfies and autographs.
