More cash on offer to help town’s residents stay warm this winter
A scheme to help residents stay warm this winter has received a cash boost. Around 400 energy insulation measures have already been installed in homes across Rochdale borough as part of the project, with a collective saving on energy bills for the householders of around £125,000 a year.
The scheme is now stepping up a gear, with more money secured to install around 100 gas central heating systems free of charge in homes which don’t have one.
It is estimated that around 1,000 homes in Rochdale are without central heating, instead relying on more expensive methods of heating, such as gas fires and storage heaters.
The scheme, funded through the National Grid Warm Homes fund, is designed to help households living in fuel poverty who struggle to pay for heating.
Coun Linda Robinson, assistant to the cabinet member for housing and environment at Rochdale council, said: “We don’t want anybody to be in a position where they avoid putting their heating on in the winter because they’re worried about the cost.”
