Brew­ing up char­ity cash

COF­FEE cups were drained and cakes tasted across the bor­ough to mark the World’s Big­gest Cof­fee Morn­ing fundraiser.

Spec­savers in Rochdale held a cof­fee morn­ing for Macmil­lan Can­cer Re­search, sell­ing a se­lec­tion of de­li­cious sweet treats for their cus­tomers, rais­ing more than £100 for the char­ity.

Staff treated vis­i­tors to a bake sale, which in­cluded mouth­wa­ter­ing choco­late fudge cake, cup­cakes, brown­ies and cherry bakewells.

Sarah Cul­shaw, store di­rec­tor at the York­shire Street op­ti­cians, said: “It was bril­liant to see what the team had whipped up for the day.

“The whole day was re­ally suc­cess­ful and ev­ery­one had a won­der­ful time sell­ing snacks for a good cause.”

Fundrais­ers were also held at Rochdale coun­cil and a Bake Off at Rochdale Sixth Form Col­lege, while Dale In The Com­mu­nity Trust’s Dale’s Sil­ver 60s group raised al­most £200 for Macmil­lan Nurses.

The Dale first team squad and man­age­ment at­tended, do­nat­ing to the cause and en­joy­ing cups of cof­fee and a chat with the club’s se­nior ci­ti­zens ac­tiv­ity group the Sil­ver 60s.
