A celebration of Spike Milligan
THE premiere of the stage version of a popular BBC Radio 4 programme starring comic Spike Milligan will be performed at the Curtain Theatre.
Hambledon Productions are celebrating 100 years of Spike Milligan with a revival of The Milligan Papers by Spike’s long-standing collaborator John Antrobus.
The script has been updated and adapted for a modern-day audience by actor and playwright John Hewer, who takes John Antrobus’ role.
John said: “It starts a bit straight-laced and formal-looking, with a replica set of a BBC recording studio of the era, but then, from the very first line, it’s clear that comedy is key.
“2018 marks Spike’s centenary, so we’re lucky to be producing this show which celebrates his unique sense of humour.
“I’m lucky to have teamed up with Jeremy Smith and Christopher Peters, and we’re joined by the Katy Slater, who’s got impeccable comic timing and vocal versatility. The show is very much ‘the very best of’ the original radio series.”
The Milligan Papers will be staged at The Curtain Theatre at 7.30pm on October 20. Tickets cost £10.
