Rochdale Observer - - YOUR VIEWS READER’S PICTURE -

TODAY we are showcasing another selection of pictures from last weekend’s Rochdale Half Marathon.

The event on Sunday saw more than 1,000 runners take to the streets to participate in half marathon, as well as a 10K and fun run.

Now in its fourth year, the race drew spectators and supporters to the town, who lined the route to cheer on the runners as they headed off from the town hall, across the town into the countryside, taking in Hollingworth Lake on the way.

There was music by the Roch School Band from Rochdale Music Service in Broadfield Park, keeping the crowds entertained, while The Esplanade was filled with stalls on health and fitness.

Event sponsor Williams BMW displayed top range cars in the town hall square, including the i8 plug-in hybrid.

Benjamin Coop from Bury Athletics won the half marathon, with a time of 31:38 minutes, while Kirsty Sharp of Glossopdale Harriers was the first woman over the line, with a time of 39:08. Louise Wakefield, aged 14, won the one-mile fun run in 5:45 minutes, pipping second place Ian Aitchinson to the post, with his time of 6:34.
