Eight fire crews attend blaze at industrial unit

RESIDENTS were being told to keep their windows and doors closed as fire crews tackled a blaze at an industrial unit in Rochdale.

Firefighte­rs from eight crews across the region were called to the scene of the fire on Crawford Street after it broke out at an industrial unit at around 5.20pm on Wednesday, a spokespers­on for the fire service said.

Residents who live nearby were being told to keep their windows and doors closed.

The fire service was also asking people to avoid the area and keep the surroundin­g streets clear to allow access for fire engines.

At the time, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “Our crews are currently fighting a fire at an industrial unit on Crawford Street in Rochdale.

“Residents are being asked to keep their doors and windows closed.

“Please avoid the area and keep streets clear to allow access for emergency services vehicles.”

In a statement, a spokespers­on for fire service said: “At 5.22pm on the 25th November we were called about an incident on Crawford Street, Rochdale.

“Firefighte­rs were quickly on the scene of this incident, involving a fire at an industrial unit.

“Firefighte­rs from Rochdale, Chadderton,

Littleboro­ugh, Heywood, Hyde, Holins, Salford and Stockport are currently tackling the fire.

“This incident is ongoing.”

“Local residents are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed at this time.”
