Pupils encouraged to try out new roles

-

INDUSTRY experts are coming together as part of a special event to inspire pupils to achieve their career goals.

Workers from across a range of sectors will give talks to Alder Grange pupils as part of an initiative to challenge their perceptions of certain careers.

Professionals including a female airline pilot, male nurse, female truck driving instructor and female firefighter will attend as part of the #ICan event.

It will also see talks from construction experts, a computer science lecturer, project manager and TV producer and director.

The #ICan event has been organised by the school in a bid to encourage pupils to follow their dreams and inspire them to think about careers that they might not have considered before.

Jo Griffiths, head of school, explained the theory behind the event.

She said: “In some industries there are still big disparities between the numbers of men and women in certain roles. Although the gap is closing there is still a lot of work to be done.

“Our aim is to inspire our pupils to strive for their goals regardless of their gender, ethnicity and background.”
