Family shop closure blow
THE closure of a wellknown family greengrocers after decades of trading has been met with sadness.
Greenfields, on Deardengate in Haslingden, announced its closure after a handwritten sign appeared in the shop window.
Coun Val Roberts, councillor for Greenfield ward and Rossendale Conservative group leader, said the news was ‘tragic’ for the area.
She said: “It’s really sad that we’ve lost the shop - the nearest grocers is probably now in Rawtenstall.
“It was a father-and-son shop that was set up well over 20 years ago – they’re a well-known and respected family.”
A sign in the shop window read: ‘It is with great regret we must inform you that Greenfields greengrocers has closed.
“We would like to thank all our customers for their past support – from Robert and staff.”
