Fam­ily shop clo­sure blow

THE clo­sure of a well­known fam­ily green­gro­cers af­ter decades of trad­ing has been met with sad­ness.

Green­fields, on Dear­den­gate in Hasling­den, an­nounced its clo­sure af­ter a hand­writ­ten sign ap­peared in the shop win­dow.

Coun Val Roberts, coun­cil­lor for Green­field ward and Rossendale Con­ser­va­tive group leader, said the news was ‘tragic’ for the area.

She said: “It’s re­ally sad that we’ve lost the shop - the near­est gro­cers is prob­a­bly now in Rawten­stall.

“It was a fa­ther-and-son shop that was set up well over 20 years ago – they’re a well-known and re­spected fam­ily.”

A sign in the shop win­dow read: ‘It is with great re­gret we must in­form you that Green­fields green­gro­cers has closed.

“We would like to thank all our cus­tomers for their past sup­port – from Robert and staff.”
