MRS Joyce Lil­ian Fletcher nee Wal­ton, for­merly of Richard Street, Weir, Bacup died on Fri­day, Au­gust 18 at Craw­shaw Hall nurs­ing home, Craw­shaw­booth, aged 63.

Joyce had worked as a care as­sis­tant at Bur­wood House in Bacup be­fore her ill­ness.

Her hob­bies in­cluded camp­ing, read­ing and word puzzles. Other in­ter­ests in­cluded home­less­ness and so­cial issues, es­pe­cially the Sal­va­tion Army, who she had a life­long as­so­ci­a­tion with.

She leaves her hus­band Mau­rice, daugh­ter Helen and hus­band John and their chil­dren, Abby and Con­nor, son-in-law Tom and sons Mark and Matt.

Her funeral ser­vice took place on Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 30 at Burn­ley Cre­ma­to­rium of­fi­ci­ated by Ma­jor Lorraine O’Neill of the Sal­va­tion Army.

Do­na­tions in Joyce’s me­mory may be made to the Sal­va­tion Army c/o funeral di­rec­tor Gra­ham Holt for Knight & Boys Funeral Ser­vices. CYRIL Smith of Stack­steads passed away on Satur­day, Au­gust 26 aged 85 at The Manor House Nurs­ing Home in Chat­burn.

Cyril was born in Whit­worth and lived in Bacup and Stack­steads for most of his life.

After school Cyril trained as a joiner and then served with the RAF for Na­tional Ser­vice as a gaf tur­bine en­gi­neer.

When he left the RAF he set up his own busi­ness as a joiner and con­trac­tor un­til he re­tired in 1996.

Cyril loved to spend time with his fam­ily and was in­ter­ested in air­craft and the Sec­ond World War.

He was very keen on play­ing pi­ano, play­ing golf and was a mem­ber of Bacup Golf Club.

He was also a mem­ber of Bacup Ro­tary Club and be­came pres­i­dent in 1984-85.

He leaves his wife Janet, daugh­ter Karen and her part­ner Arthur, son Christo­pher and his part­ner Amy, grand­chil­dren Chloe, Lewis and Mar­ley, also sev­eral nieces and neph­ews and great nieces and neph­ews.

His funeral is due to be held on Tues­day, Septem­ber 5 at 1.40pm at Burn­ley Cre­ma­to­rium of­fi­ci­ated by the Rev­erend Andy Froud.

Fam­ily flow­ers only and do­na­tions if wished to Alzheimer’s Re­search UK, which can be given at the ser­vice or to a fam­ily mem­ber.
