PENSIONERS danced to Elvis and Tom Jones at the Rossendale senior citizens party.

Around 250 people gathered at the Riverside in Whitworth for the event. Bacup councillor Jimmy Eaton, who helped organise and fundraise for the annual party, said it was ‘one of the best they’ve ever had’.

Entertainment was provided by singers Robert Neal and Paul Dillon – and a performance by members of the Dansworks Dance Academy in Bacup.

The party was funded by the proceeds of June’s sportsman’s dinner.

Coun Eaton said: “The food and entertainment was absolutely brilliant and everybody said it was the best one they have ever had.

“I would like to thank everybody who donated raffle prizes, the eight helpers who come every year to plate all the food up and wash up, the Riverside staff and Lords the Caterers in Whitworth.”

Eighty pensioners will also be able to enjoy a full Christmas dinner on December 6 at the Rose ‘N’ Bowl in Stacksteads.

Coun Eaton said he has been involved in the party for nearly 50 years and will look to do ‘a couple more before hanging up his boots’.
