Cel­e­bra­tion of sport event

A SPE­CIAL free event is be­ing staged to cel­e­brate sport across the Val­ley.

Rossendale Leisure Trust’s ‘Cel­e­bra­tion of Sport’ will take place on Fri­day Septem­ber 8, at the River­side in Whitworth.

The event is part of the Trust’s an­nual ac­knowl­edge­ment of sport in the bor­ough. Two times Bri­tish cham­pion tram­po­line gym­nast Luke Strong will be the guest speaker. Jodie Shen­ton, from Rossendale Leisure Trust said: “Each year we hold an an­nual cel­e­bra­tion of sport to recog­nise lo­cal sports per­son and clubs achieve­ments.” There will be a pie and pea sup­per, and open bar as well as en­ter­tain­ment start­ing at 7.30pm. Other speak­ers in­clude Stephanie Thorn­ton from the Rossendale Bor­ough Coun­cil project ‘Liv­ing Well, Liv­ing Bet­ter’, Nathan Bibby, school games or­gan­iser, and Ken Masser, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of the Rossendale Leisure Trust.

At last year’s event, guests en­joyed a Q&A ses­sion with Par­a­lympic swim­ming star Tom Hamer, from Rawten­stall, who struck silver twice in Rio 2016.
