A JUNIOR football club has been boosted with a sizeable donation from a supermarket.

The Rossendale Valley Junior Football Club was presented with a cheque for £1,250 from Rawtenstall Asda’s community champion Laura Saxton.

The donation forms part of its £2,000 annual sports grant, which was also split with Haslingden Girls Football Team.

The Valley juniors were formed in 2003 and currently have 27 teams aged from under-sevens up to under-16s, with around 370 children playing in leagues across the North West.

Michelle Chambers, fundraising organiser for the club, said: “Many thanks to Asda, for this fantastic amount which will be put to great use.

“Rossendale Valley Junior Football Club is made up of lots of volunteers coordinated by Linda Howarth and we are always on the lookout for more helpers and more sponsors.”

Michelle added that they are planning a family disco and Christmas party to support the club, and are always looking for new sponsors for football kits, to help with the cost of replacing nets, provide funding for winter indoor and 3G/4G pitches.
