New group to re­duce lone­li­ness

A KNIT and Nat­ter group has been launched in Water­foot in a bid to re­duce lone­li­ness and iso­la­tion.

The group was set up by Irene Dean six weeks ago and is held ev­ery Tues­day from 10am to 12noon at JW Churn­side & Son Chapel of Rest, on Burn­ley Road East.

There are tea, cof­fee and bis­cuits on of­fer and mem­bers can pro­vide help with cro­chet­ing and knit­ting.

All abil­i­ties are wel­come, and Irene is keep to build on the cur­rent five mem­bers.

Irene said: “We want to get peo­ple who are lonely out of the house for a cou­ple of hours.

“A lot of el­derly peo­ple are lonely and this group lets peo­ple learn a new skill and we have a laugh. Even if peo­ple don’t want to knit then can sit and have a cup of tea and a chat.”
