Borough target winning return
BACUP Borough will hope to return to winning ways when they host Whitchurch Alport on Saturday.
It’s been a frustrating few weeks for Bacup, capped off on Saturday when the planned game against Cheadle Town fell victim to the weather.
Brent Peters’ side had suffered four straight defeats prior to that, including a 3-1 loss at Holker Old Boys in the Challenge Cup.
The other games saw Bacup beaten 3-0 at Charnock Richard in the FA Vase, while also losing 7-1 at Sandbach United and 1-0 at home to Cammell Laird 1907 in league games.
It has left them 15th in the North West Counties Division One table, having won three of their seven games so far this season.
Whitchurch Alport have had a good start to the campaign, winning six of their nine games to leave them in fifth place.
They were emphatic winners in their last match, defeating New Mills 5-0 at home, thanks to a hat-trick from Simon Everall and further goals from Joe Howell and Jimmy Garlick.
It is set to be an emotional game for Bacup, as it will be their first match since the sad passing of club legend Brian Boys earlier this week.
