Gary com­pletes epic char­ity chal­lenge

A RUN­NER who set him­self an epic char­ity chal­lenge has tasted double suc­cess.

Gary Mor­ton, from Helmshore, suc­cess­fully com­pleted 31 marathons in as many days and has also sur­passed his £30,000 fundrais­ing tar­get for a cancer char­ity.

Gary, who works for DW Sports, ran his fi­nal 26-mile run to work in Pem­ber­ton on Oc­to­ber 29, fin­ish­ing at The Clat­ter­bridge Cancer Cen­tre, ex­actly a month and more than 800 miles af­ter the chal­lenge be­gan.

Gary’s mother-in­law Gil­lian Walker is be­ing treated at Clat­ter­bridge af­ter be­ing di­ag­nosed with skin cancer four years ago, which spread to her liver and lung.

More than 800 sup­port­ers have helped Gary raise more than £32,400 via his just­giv­ing page so far

Gary, 43, said the sup­port of fam­ily, friends and even strangers kept him go­ing dur­ing a “tough few weeks”. ●● Gary Mor­ton in road race ac­tion

Fundrais­ing man­ager Jeni Nu­gent said: “We are ab­so­lutely blown away by what Gary has done. To.run one marathon is an achieve­ment, to take on 31 in 31 days is a truly su­per­hu­man ef­fort. We want to say a huge thank you to Gary and his sup­port team.”
